When the Pantone Color Institute speaks, people listen! Including home stagers! The color of the year for 2014 is Radiant Orchid. This color is what comes to mind when you think of a purple orchid with fusions of pink, fuchsia, and purple tones. Each year, the institute chooses a color based upon hues trending upwards in creative fields, such as interior design or fashion. Feedback on this year's color choice: "happy and fun", "you can layer it with pinks and purples", "it is a glamorous" and "it is sophisticated".
Radiant Orchid is not a color choice for those afraid of color. It has not been a popular choice among people who gravitate towards the natural and coastal colors of blue or greens, but it is fun and can add zest.
I think this is a terrific color for an accent wall or in patterned bedding or drapery panels. Radiant Orchid would be a fabulous addition in accessories in neutral settings of taupe, camel, browns or warm grays. It is also stunning when paired with bronze or silver. It adds a nice punch of unexpected color that is modern, different and refreshing. If you are staging or decorating your home, try it and let us know!
Teen bathroom with Orchid in the shower curtain. Orchid accessories added zest and pop - she loves it!
